Botox Aftercare: What to Do (and Avoid) After Your Appointment
By Mallory Radvansky, APRN-CNP · August 4, 2026
Botox needs very little aftercare, but a few simple habits help you get the best result. Always follow the specific instructions your provider gives you, since they are based on your treatment. Here is what we generally recommend.
In the first several hours
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas.
- Stay upright for a few hours rather than lying flat.
- Skip strenuous exercise for the rest of the day.
- Avoid heat like saunas or very hot showers right away.
The first day or two
- Take it easy on intense workouts if we have advised it.
- Avoid facials, massage or pressure on the treated area.
- Contact us if you take medications that affect bruising and want to ask about them.
What is normal
- Tiny bumps that settle within a short time.
- Slight redness at injection sites.
- Occasionally a small bruise.
- Results developing over several days, with full effect around two weeks.
