Botox vs. Xeomin: What’s the Difference?

By Mallory Radvansky, APRN-CNP · May 14, 2026

Botox and Xeomin are the two names we hear most from clients exploring neurotoxins. Both are FDA-approved products that relax the muscles behind expression lines like forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. So which one is right for you?

What they have in common

  • Both soften lines caused by repeated muscle movement.
  • Both are administered with tiny injections by a trained provider.
  • Both typically take several days to show results, with full effect around two weeks.
  • Both generally last about three to four months, though this varies from person to person.

How they differ

The main differences are in the formulation. Xeomin is often described as a “naked” neurotoxin because it contains fewer additional proteins. Botox is the longest-established brand. For many people the practical difference in results is small.

Some clients prefer one over the other because of how they have responded in the past, and some providers use one for certain areas and the other for different ones. There is no universal “better” choice.

How we help you decide

At your consultation, we review your goals, how your face moves, your medical history and any past experience with neurotoxins. Then we recommend an approach and explain why. If you have used one product and loved it, we will usually stay with what works.

What matters more than the brand

Honestly, who injects and how matters more than the product name. Careful placement and a conservative dose are what keep results natural and keep your expressions intact.
